Hunter Biden’s attorneys filed nine motions on Tuesday asking a judge to dismiss tax-related charges filed by special counsel David Weiss in a California federal court last year. In December, Mr. Biden was charged with nine felony and misdemeanor charges stemming from his failure to pay $1.4m in taxes for three years during a time when he was in the throes of addiction. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges. The back taxes and penalties were eventually paid in full by a third party, thought to be his attorney and confidant, Kevin Morris. “When a taxpayer has paid all they owe under those circumstances, as Mr. Biden has, criminal tax charges simply are not brought,” one of the filings said. “The fact that they were brought here highlights that Mr. Biden is being subject to a selective and vindictive prosecution.”
